Grallaria centralis
The Central Antpitta (Grallaria centralis) is a medium-sized, ground-dwelling bird found in the cloud forests of the Andes mountains in South America. It has a distinctive olive-brown plumage with a white throat and chest, and a reddish-brown crown. This species is known for its loud, flute-like calls that echo through the dense undergrowth. Central Antpittas forage for insects and small invertebrates on the forest floor, using their strong legs and sharp beaks to probe the leaf litter. They are often elusive and difficult to spot due to their secretive nature and cryptic plumage. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and fragmentation, the Central Antpitta's population status remains relatively unknown.
