Curruca layardi
The Ceylon Rufous Babbler, or Curruca layardi, is a small passerine bird found in Sri Lanka. It is characterized by its rufous-brown plumage with a distinctive white throat and chest. These birds are known for their melodious and varied songs, often heard in the dense undergrowth of tropical forests. They are highly social and often forage in small groups, feeding on insects, berries, and small fruits. The Ceylon Rufous Babbler is a resident breeder in its native habitat and is known for its agile and acrobatic movements while foraging. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to its population.
