Chaco Chachalaca

Ortalis canicollis (Wagler, 1830)

Chaco Chachalaca, Ortalis canicollis, is a bird of the Cracidae family found in South America, mainly in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay, with possible presence in Uruguay. It lives in the Gran Chaco and in a range of wooded and open habitats, including swamp forest, dry subtropical forest, gallery forest, semi-deciduous forest and palm groves. The nominate form has grey head, back and breast, with a tan to brown belly and bare pinkish red skin around the eye. A second form is browner and has more purplish facial skin.
