Chaco Eagle, Buteogallus coronatus, is a bird of prey of eastern and central South America, breeding in e Bolivia, Paraguay and s Brazil to c Argentina. First described by Vieillot in 1817, it is a member of the Accipitridae. It is a large raptor with a mostly dull, silvery grey body, a short black tail marked by a broad white band and white tip, and yellow cere and legs. A darker grey crest gives it its crowned look. The juvenile also has a crest, but it is dark brown, with a creamy head and underparts streaked grey.
