Chaco Earthcreeper

Tarphonomus certhioides (d'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1838)

Furnariidae — Ovenbirds

Chaco Earthcreeper, Tarphonomus certhioides, is a passerine of the Furnariidae family that breeds in South America, mainly in Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay, with a single record from Brazil. It is a small earthcreeper with a long bill that curves only a little. The sexes look the same. It lives in dense scrub and deciduous woodland in the Chaco Basin, especially where terrestrial bromeliads grow, and also on shrub-covered slopes in the Andean foothills. It stays in the same areas all year and feeds on arthropods, usually by searching alone on the ground.
