Petroica traversi
The Chatham Island robin (Petroica traversi) is a small passerine bird endemic to the Chatham Islands of New Zealand. It has a distinctive black head and upperparts, with a white patch on the forehead and a bright orange breast. This species is known for its curious and confiding nature, often approaching humans closely. Chatham Island robins are primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor and in low vegetation. They are territorial and form monogamous pairs during the breeding season, building cup-shaped nests in tree cavities or among roots. The population of Chatham Island robins is currently stable, but they are vulnerable to habitat loss and introduced predators.
