Chatham Islands Bellbird, Anthornis melanocephala, was a bird of the Chatham Islands in Australasia, breeding on the islands east of New Zealand’s South Island. It belonged to the honeyeater family and was first described by Gray in 1843. It was extinct. In form it closely matched the New Zealand bellbird, but it was much larger, and its head and neck had a bright purplish or steel-blue sheen. It nested from August to October and usually laid three eggs in a nest larger than those of mainland bellbirds.
