Checker-throated Woodpecker, Chrysophlegma mentale, is a woodpecker of the Oriental Region, breeding in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. It is also known as the checker-throated yellownape or Javan yellownape. The bird belongs to the family Picidae and was described by Temminck in 1826. Its range is centred on Southeast Asia. It is found in moist lowland and montane forest, and along the inland edge of mangrove forest. It nests in dead wood, with breeding recorded in Malaysia in March and April and in Borneo from February to June.
