Charadrius pallidus (Strickland, 1853)

Chestnut-banded Plover, Charadrius pallidus, lives across southern Africa in alkaline and saline wetlands, with separate populations in the region and a narrower presence in the Rift Valley of Kenya and Tanzania. It is marked by long dark legs, a black bill, black facial lines, and a chestnut band across the breast that matches one on the fore-crown. The forehead, throat and underparts are white, while the upperparts are greyish brown. It breeds in salt pans, lagoons and salt marshes, often close to water and in open, sparsely vegetated places.
