Liosceles thoracicus
The Chestnut-bellied Monarch is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of New Guinea and nearby islands. It is characterized by its striking chestnut belly and black and white plumage. The male has a glossy black head and upperparts, while the female has a more brownish-gray coloration. These birds are known for their melodious and varied songs, often heard during the breeding season. They feed on insects and forage in the mid to upper levels of the forest canopy. The Chestnut-bellied Monarch is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is believed to be stable.
