Ninox theomacha
The Chestnut-bellied Owl (Ninox theomacha) is a medium-sized owl found in the forests of New Guinea. It has a distinctive chestnut-colored belly and a mottled brown and white plumage on its upperparts, providing excellent camouflage among the trees. This nocturnal bird of prey preys on small mammals, birds, and insects. It has a haunting call that echoes through the forest at night. The Chestnut-bellied Owl is well-adapted to its forest habitat and is an important part of the ecosystem in which it lives.
