Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse

Eulabeornis castaneoventris

The Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse is a medium-sized bird found in the dry savannas and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its striking chestnut belly and intricate black and white plumage on the upperparts. These birds are highly social and often gather in large flocks, particularly around water sources where they come to drink. They are well-adapted to arid environments and have specialized feathers that allow them to carry water back to their chicks in small amounts. The Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse primarily feeds on seeds and grains, foraging on the ground in open areas. Their populations are currently stable and not considered at risk.
