Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse

Creatophora cinerea

The Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse is a medium-sized bird found in the dry savannas and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. It is known for its striking chestnut-colored belly and intricate black and white plumage on the wings. These birds are highly adapted to arid environments, obtaining water from morning dew and often traveling long distances to find suitable drinking spots. They form monogamous pairs and are often seen in small flocks, foraging on the ground for seeds and occasionally insects. Their distinctive call can be heard as they fly low over the landscape. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and hunting, the Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
