Chestnut Bunting Emberiza rutila is a passerine in the bunting family Emberizidae, breeding in the Palearctic in open forest across south-central Russia and north-central Mongolia to the Sea of Okhotsk, Ussuriland, north-east Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang. In the non-breeding season it moves to subtropical openings and fields in north, central and south-east Asia and southern China, including Nagaland to Mizoram in north-east India. It uses open forest with ground cover and shrubs for breeding, and farmland, scrub and woodland edges when migrating and in winter. It was described by Pallas in 1776.
