Chestnut-crowned Antpitta

Grallaria saturata

The Chestnut-crowned Antpitta is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in the cloud forests of the Andes mountains in South America. It is known for its distinctive chestnut crown and olive-brown plumage, which provides excellent camouflage among the leaf litter. These birds are primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor for invertebrates and small arthropods. They have a unique, resonant call that echoes through the dense undergrowth. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Chestnut-crowned Antpitta faces conservation challenges, and its population is declining in some areas.
