Chestnut-crowned Antpitta

Grallaricula nana

The Chestnut-crowned Antpitta (Grallaricula nana) is a small, secretive bird found in the cloud forests of the Andes in South America. It has a distinctive chestnut crown and a mottled brown and gray plumage, providing excellent camouflage among the dense undergrowth where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. This species is known for its distinctive whistled calls, often heard before it is seen. The Chestnut-crowned Antpitta is highly territorial and prefers to remain hidden in the underbrush, making it a challenging bird to spot. Its conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
