The Chestnut-eared Finch, scientifically known as Taeniopygia castanotis, is a small passerine bird native to Australia. It is characterized by its distinctive chestnut ear coverts and a striking black and white facial pattern. These finches are often found in open grassy woodlands, savannas, and shrublands, where they forage for seeds and small insects on the ground. They are social birds, often seen in small flocks, and are known for their melodious calls and acrobatic flight displays during courtship. The Chestnut-eared Finch plays an important role in the ecosystem as a seed disperser. Despite facing some habitat loss, they are currently not considered to be at risk and are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
