Chestnut-fronted Helmetshrike

Prionops scopifrons

The Chestnut-fronted Helmetshrike, also known as the Prionops scopifrons, is a striking bird found in the woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. This species is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with a chestnut-colored forehead that gives it its name. These social birds are often seen in small groups, foraging for insects and small vertebrates. They build cup-shaped nests in trees and lay 2-3 eggs. The Chestnut-fronted Helmetshrike plays a role in maintaining the balance of its ecosystem by controlling insect populations. However, habitat loss and fragmentation are threats to its population.
