Chestnut Teal, Anas castanea, is a duck that breeds in Australia, mainly in the south-east and south-west, with Tasmania and southern Victoria as its stronghold. It is a darker and slightly larger bird than the grey teal, and the male has a green head with a mottled brown body. The female is brown-headed and mottled brown, and is very similar to the female grey teal. It favours coastal estuaries and wetlands, and is found in waters of any salinity.
