Chestnut-vented Nuthatch

Sitta villosa

The Chestnut-vented Nuthatch is a small songbird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive blue-grey upper body with a chestnut-colored vent, and a black stripe through the eye. This nuthatch is known for its agile foraging behavior, often seen hopping along tree trunks and branches in search of insects and seeds. It also has a loud and repetitive call that echoes through the forest. The Chestnut-vented Nuthatch nests in tree cavities and is known for its territorial behavior during the breeding season. Despite facing habitat loss and fragmentation, this species is currently not considered to be at risk and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
