Chestnut Weaver

Ploceus castaneiceps

The Chestnut Weaver (Ploceus castaneiceps) is a small passerine bird found in central Africa. This weaver species is known for its distinctive chestnut-colored head and upperparts, with a bright yellow belly and black mask around the eyes. Chestnut Weavers are highly social birds, often seen in large flocks building intricately woven, hanging nests in trees or shrubs. They primarily feed on seeds and insects, foraging in open woodlands, savannas, and grasslands. The species is known for its melodious and varied songs, often heard during the breeding season. While the Chestnut Weaver is currently not considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation may pose future conservation challenges.
