Chestnut Weaver

Ploceus castanops

The Chestnut Weaver (Ploceus castanops) is a small passerine bird native to Africa. It is known for its distinctive chestnut-colored head and upperparts, with a yellow belly and black wings. These social birds are often found in open woodlands, savannas, and grasslands, where they build intricate, dome-shaped nests from grass and other plant materials. Chestnut Weavers are highly gregarious, often forming large colonies during the breeding season. They primarily feed on seeds and insects, foraging in flocks and occasionally visiting agricultural areas. While their populations are currently stable, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to their long-term survival.
