Ortalis garrula (Humboldt, 1805)
Cracidae — Chachalacas, Curassows, Guans
Chestnut-winged Chachalaca, Ortalis garrula, is a bird of north-west Colombia in the family Cracidae. It was described by Humboldt in 1805. Its range in breeding season is confined to this part of South America. The species lives in thickly vegetated places including scrubby deciduous woodland, dry scrub, tropical thickets and mangroves, and it also uses forest edges rather than the interior of dense forest. It occurs from sea level up to about 800 m. Its chestnut flight feathers are a key feature, and the eye is set in bare skin that is reddish to black.
