Chinese Grosbeak

Chinese Grosbeak breeds in the eastern Palearctic and winters in south-east Asia. It is a finch in the family Fringillidae, recorded from the Russian Far East, China, Manchuria and Korea. It lives in forests, mixed woodland and bamboo on hills and mountains, and also comes into gardens and orchards. The bird has a heavy build and a large head, with a very strong conical bill that is yellow with a black tip. The tail is black, and the female has a grey facial mask rather than the male’s black one.
