Chirruping Nightjar

Caprimulgus griseatus Walden, 1875

Caprimulgidae — Nightjars

Chirruping Nightjar, Caprimulgus griseatus, breeds in the Philippines and belongs to the nightjar family. It was described by Walden in 1875. It is separated from the Savanna Nightjar by its vocal differences, and its English name reflects the distinctive high-pitched call. Two subspecies are recognised, with one on Luzon, Catanduanes, Sibuyan, Mindoro, Negros and Cebu, and the other on Mindanao. It occurs in grassland, open woodland, scrubby forest edges, farmland, riverbanks and dry riverbeds, and has been recorded up to 1,500 metres above sea level.
