Chirruping Wedgebill

Psophodes cristatus (Gould, 1838)

Chirruping Wedgebill, Psophodes cristatus, is a bird of south-eastern inland Australia, breeding from south-west Queensland through eastern central South Australia and north-west New South Wales. It belongs to the whipbird family and was first described by Gould in 1838. It lives in low, open shrubland, especially where acacias, bluebush, emu bush and lignum grow. Its key feature is its repeated chirruping call, which sets it apart from the chiming wedgebill. The species is usually found in patchy numbers, and adults are generally sedentary and territorial throughout the year.
