Choco Brushfinch, Atlapetes crassus, is a passerine of the New World sparrows that breeds in western Colombia and south-west Ecuador. It was described by Bangs in 1908 and is now treated as a full species. The bird is tied to the western Andean slope, where it occurs in open cloud forest and in the understorey and edges of humid forest and secondary woodland. It is a year-round resident. Records place it from northern Antioquia in Colombia to western Cotopaxi in Ecuador, with further scattered occurrences in southern Ecuador.
