Choco Screech Owl, Megascops centralis, is an owl of the family Strigidae that breeds in South America from the Canal Zone in Panama south to western Ecuador, reaching nearly north-western Peru, and east to at least the Cauca and Magdalena Valleys of Colombia. It lives in humid primary and secondary forest, both inside the forest and along its edges, in lowlands and foothills. It is usually found below 1,000 m, though it has been recorded as high as 1,575 m in south-western Ecuador. It has grey and rufous colour forms, with some birds showing intermediate plumage.
