Odontophorus strophium
The Choco Wood Quail (Odontophorus strophium) is a small ground-dwelling bird found in the dense undergrowth of the Choco region in western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. It has a distinctive brown and black plumage with intricate patterns, and a short, rounded tail. These secretive birds forage for seeds, fruits, and insects on the forest floor, using their strong legs and short wings to navigate the dense vegetation. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the Choco Wood Quail faces threats to its survival. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect the remaining populations of this species.
