Chocolate Boobook, Ninox randi, is an owl of the Philippines and the Talaud Islands in the north-east of Sulawesi. It belongs to the Strigidae family and was first described by Deignan in 1951. It is part of the Brown boobook group, but its voice and body measurements set it apart. It has no recognised subspecies. Its breeding habits are little known, though a young bird was found in June, and it is thought to nest in cavities. It uses primary lowland rainforest, secondary forest and mangroves, and avoids cultivated and settled areas.
