Christmas Island Thrush

Turdus erythropleurus Sharpe, 1887

Turdidae — Thrushes

Christmas Island Thrush, Turdus erythropleurus, is a thrush of Christmas Island in the Oriental Region, where it is the only place it breeds. It was described by Sharpe in 1887 and belongs to the family Turdidae. The bird is now treated as a species in its own right. It is found across much of the island, including rainforest and gardens, and is less often seen in Pandanus thickets, thick regrowth and ground disturbed by mining. Its nestlings are taken by introduced yellow crazy ants, which are a major threat.
