Chuuk Monarch

Metabolus rugensis (Hombron & Jacquinot, 1841)

Chuuk Monarch, Metabolus rugensis, is a passerine in the Monarchidae family and breeds on Chuuk in Micronesia. It is the only species placed in the genus Metabolus, and was first described in 1841 by Hombron and Jacquinot. The bird is confined to the Chuuk islands, where it occurs in dry forest, mangrove forest, moist montane forest, moist shrubland and plantations. It was once placed in Muscicapa. Its habitat is being reduced as the islands are developed and forest cover is lost.
