Cinnamon Ground Dove

Hypocryptadius cinnamomeus

The Cinnamon Ground Dove (Hypocryptadius cinnamomeus) is a small, ground-dwelling dove species found in the forests and woodlands of New Guinea. This species is known for its striking cinnamon-colored plumage, with subtle iridescent markings on the wings and a distinctive white patch on the tail. Cinnamon Ground Doves forage on the forest floor for seeds, fallen fruits, and small invertebrates. They are often encountered in pairs or small groups, and their soft, melodious calls can be heard echoing through the forest understory. Due to habitat loss and potential hunting pressure, the conservation status of the Cinnamon Ground Dove is currently classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
