Cloud-forest Screech Owl

Megascops marshalli (Weske & Terborgh, 1981)

Cloud-forest Screech Owl, Megascops marshalli, is an owl of the cloud forests of south and central Peru, with records also from northern Bolivia. It breeds in South America in central and southern Peru. The species is one of the smaller screech owls and has a rufous facial disc, white brows, short ear tufts, and rich reddish-brown upperparts marked with blackish mottling. The folded wing shows white spots, the tail is barred, and the underparts are streaked. It lives in humid, mossy forest with epiphytes, ferns and dense undergrowth, and has been recorded from 1,900 to 2,600 m.
