Megascops marshalli
The Cloud-forest Screech Owl (Megascops marshalli) is a small owl species native to the cloud forests of Central and South America. It is characterized by its distinctive whistling call and large, dark eyes. These nocturnal birds feed on insects, small mammals, and birds, using their excellent hearing and vision to locate prey in the dim light of the forest. They nest in tree cavities and are known for their cryptic plumage, which provides effective camouflage against the mossy bark and lichen-covered branches of their forest habitat.
