Periparus ater
The Coal Tit (Periparus ater) is a small passerine bird found in woodlands, parks, and gardens across Europe and Asia. It is easily recognized by its black cap and bib, contrasting with its white cheeks and pale underparts. The upperparts are a mix of grey, olive, and brown. This species is known for its acrobatic foraging behavior, often hanging upside down to feed on insects, seeds, and nuts. The Coal Tit builds its nest in tree holes or nest boxes, lining it with moss, hair, and feathers. It is a common and adaptable species, often seen in mixed-species flocks during the non-breeding season.
