Cock-tailed Tyrant, Alectrurus tricolor, is a passerine of the Tyrannidae family that breeds in north-central Bolivia, eastern Paraguay and south-east Brazil. It is an open grassland bird, favouring tall grass in campos rupestres, cerrado and humid savanna, and it may also use shrubby ground near water. The species is known for the male’s striking tail, with long stiff central feathers held upright and the outer feathers pressed close beside them. It was first described by Vieillot in 1816 and is one of two species in Alectrurus.
