Cocos Finch

Cocos Finch, Pinaroloxias inornata, is a tanager from Cocos Island in the far south-west of Costa Rica. It is the only member of its genus and the only Darwin’s finch found away from the Galápagos. First described by Gould in 1843, it is confined to this single Pacific island. Its range is limited to the island’s forested and thicketed habitats. The species is known for variation in feeding habits between individuals, a feature that sets it apart within the group.
