Colima Warbler

Geothlypis auricularis

The Colima Warbler is a small songbird found in the high-elevation pine-oak forests of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range in Mexico and the Chisos Mountains of Texas. It has a distinctive olive-green back, yellow underparts, and a gray head with a distinctive black stripe through the eye. This warbler is known for its unique nesting behavior, building its nest on the ground under a rock or log. It forages for insects and spiders in the dense vegetation of its mountainous habitat. The Colima Warbler's population is currently stable, but it faces potential threats from habitat loss and climate change.
