Gampsorhynchus torquatus

The Collared Laughingthrush (Gampsorhynchus torquatus) is a striking bird found in the eastern Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia. It is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with a bright blue patch around the eye. These birds are highly social and often found in small flocks, emitting a variety of melodious calls and songs. They inhabit dense forests and undergrowth, foraging for insects, berries, and seeds. The Collared Laughingthrush plays a vital role in forest ecosystems through seed dispersal and insect control. Despite facing habitat loss and fragmentation, this species is currently categorized as Least Concern by the IUCN.
