Collared Owlet

Taenioptynx brodiei (Burton, E, 1836)

Strigidae — Owls

Collared Owlet, Taenioptynx brodiei, is a resident owl of the Oriental Region, where it is widespread across its breeding range. It lives in submontane and montane forests with open areas, and is also found in evergreen forest, forest edges, mixed deciduous and evergreen woodland, and open woodland with scrub. It is the smallest owl in Asia, measuring 15 to 17 cm and weighing about 52 g in males and 63 g in females. It has no ear-tufts, and its pale collar and paired dark marks on the nape create an eye-like effect.
