Pterodroma brevipes
The Collared Petrel (Pterodroma brevipes) is a seabird species found in the southern Pacific Ocean. It has a distinctive black collar around its neck and a white belly. These birds are known for their long, gliding flights over the open ocean, where they feed on fish and squid. Collared Petrels nest in burrows on remote islands, and they are highly adapted for life at sea, with long, slender wings and a tube-like nose that helps them excrete excess salt. Unfortunately, these birds face threats from invasive species on their breeding islands and from accidental bycatch in fishing gear.
