Collared Plover

Anarhynchus collaris

The Collared Plover (Anarhynchus collaris) is a small shorebird found in coastal regions of South America. It has a distinctive black collar around its neck, a white belly, and brown upperparts. This species is known for its high-pitched, melodious calls and is often seen foraging for insects and small crustaceans along sandy beaches and mudflats. Collared Plovers are highly territorial during the breeding season and build shallow scrapes in the sand for their nests. They are known for their agile and quick movements, often seen running along the water's edge. Although not currently considered threatened, they may face habitat loss and disturbance in some areas.
