Collared Scops Owl, Otus lettia, is an owl of the Oriental Region, breeding from the western Himalayas through the Thai-Malay Peninsula, southern China, northern Indochina and Taiwan. It belongs to the Strigidae family and was described by Hodgson in 1836. It is a resident breeder in wooded country and forests, and nests in tree hollows. A key feature is the buff neckband that gives it its common name. It is the largest of the scops owls, with small head tufts and a facial disc that is whitish or buff. Sexes are alike.
