Comb-crested Jacana, Irediparra gallinacea, breeds across inland south-east Borneo, Sulawesi, the Lesser Sundas, Mindanao, New Guinea and nearby islands, and in north-west to south-east Australia. It is a jacana of large freshwater wetlands, swamps and lakes where floating plants form a surface it can cross. The bird is distinctive, with a black crown and hindneck, a fleshy red forehead comb, white face and throat, and a dark band across the lower breast above a white belly. Its long legs and very long toes trail in flight.
