Common Ground-Dove

Columbina passerina

The Common Ground-Dove is a small, slender dove found in open woodlands, scrublands, and agricultural areas of the Americas. It is characterized by its scaled appearance on the neck and breast, with a pale gray head and underparts, and a cinnamon-brown back. This species forages on the ground for seeds and grains, often frequenting areas with sparse vegetation. Common Ground-Doves are known for their soft, melancholic cooing calls. They are generally inconspicuous and prefer to run or fly short distances rather than take long flights. Despite being widespread, they face threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas.
