Common Murre

Uria aalge

The Common Murre, also known as the Common Guillemot, is a seabird that belongs to the auk family. It is a medium-sized bird with a black head, white underparts, and a dark brown back. Common Murres are excellent divers and feed on small fish and invertebrates. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs and islands, often forming dense nesting sites. Their eggs are pointed at one end to prevent them from rolling off the narrow ledges where they are laid. Common Murres are highly social birds and communicate with each other using a variety of calls and displays.
