Common Ostrich

Struthio camelus Linnaeus, 1758

Common Ostrich, Struthio camelus, breeds across western, central, eastern and south-western Africa. It is a flightless bird of the order Struthioniformes and the only living member of that order. Among birds, it is the largest living species. It has a long neck and long legs, which give it a distinctive outline. The species is also farmed widely for its feathers, skin and meat. It was described by Linnaeus in 1758.
