Common Pheasant

Phasianus colchicus

The Common Pheasant, also known as Ring-necked Pheasant, is a colorful bird native to Asia but widely introduced for game hunting. Males are known for their striking plumage with metallic green and blue head, red face wattling, and long tail feathers. Females are more subtly colored with mottled brown plumage. These birds are often found in open fields, grasslands, and woodland edges, foraging for seeds, grains, and insects. They are known for their distinctive cackling calls and are often seen running rather than flying when startled. Due to extensive introductions and game management, the conservation status of the Common Pheasant is of Least Concern according to the IUCN.
