Common Quail

The Common Quail (Coturnix coturnix) is a small ground-dwelling bird species belonging to the family Phasianidae. These birds are known for their distinctive call, a repetitive 'wet-my-lips' sound. Common Quails are migratory birds, breeding in Europe and western Asia and wintering in Africa. They prefer open habitats such as grasslands, farmlands, and meadows. Common Quails have cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage in their grassy habitats. They are primarily brown and buff with intricate patterning. These birds are small in size, measuring around 16-18 cm in length. The conservation status of the Common Quail is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
