Common Redpoll

Acanthis flammea

The Common Redpoll is a small finch with a distinctive red cap on the head of the male. It is native to the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia, where it is known for its acrobatic flight and cheerful twittering song. These birds are highly social and often form large flocks during the winter months. They primarily feed on seeds, especially from birch and alder trees, and are known to visit bird feeders. Common Redpolls breed in open coniferous or mixed woodlands and are well adapted to cold climates. Their populations can fluctuate widely from year to year, depending on food availability and weather conditions.
